International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB) er et toårig studieforberedende kurs som fører fram til en internasjonal eksamen. Programmet undervises i mer enn 150 land fordelt på alle verdensdeler.
IB diplomet er godkjent for opptak til høyere utdanning i Norge og for opptak til universiteter over hele verden. Det gir studiekompetanse for opptak til norske universiteter og høyskoler på linje med vg2 og vg3 i utdanningsprogram for studiespesialisering.
IB Diploma Programme bygger på Vg1 studiespesialisering, eller tilsvarende utdanning fra utlandet eller en internasjonal skole i Norge. Elever fra hele fylket kan søke på dette tilbudet ved Trondheim Katedralskole.
Undervisningen på IB foregår med engelsk som arbeidsspråk. Det er færre fag på IB i forhold til i norsk videregående skole men større fordyping i hvert fag. Arbeidsmetodene som benyttes trener elevene i å bli selvstendige og effektive i læringsarbeidet.
Alle fag har avsluttende eksamener. Disse eksamenene er de samme for alle IB-elever og blir vurdert av eksterne sensorer etter et system basert på fastlagte vurderingskriterier, noe som gir høy grad av forutsigbarhet og objektiv vurdering.
IB-linja har for tiden en årsavgift på 6500 kr som skal dekke utgifter skolen blir belastet i forbindelse med oppmelding av elever og avvikling av IB eksamener.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is a two-year course of studies leading to international examinations which are recognized for admittance to universities around the world. The programme is offered by IB schools in more than 150 countries worldwide. For admission to Norwegian universities and colleges the IB diploma is considered as equivalent to the second and third years of the Norwegian national general studies specialization programmes.
Teaching in the IB programme is in English. There are fewer subjects than in the national Norwegian education system, but more in-depth studies in each. The work methods used train students to become independent and efficient in their studies.
Students sit for final examinations in all their subjects. The examinations, which are the same for all IB students across the world, are assessed by external examiners according to a comprehensive set of assessment criteria to ensure a high degree of predictability and objectivity.
The appropriate educational background for the IB Diploma Programme is the first year of specialization in general studies at a Norwegian upper secondary school, or similar courses of study in an international school or a school in another country. Students from all over the county of Trøndelag can apply for admission to the IB DP at Trondheim Katedralskole.
Exam fees are charged for the IB Diploma Programme at Trondheim Katedralskole to cover the expenses of arranging the IB examinations, the fees currently amount to NOK 6500 per year.
